In the more circular part of this system, CO2 travels from the human body out into the classroom within a building. This CO2 then is brought through the ventilation system to the rooftop and released through an exhaust vent. BIG GRO will apply this CO2 to plants in a rooftop farm after which humans can consume the crops and the carbon can return to the human body.

The book was created during an artist residency at the utopian community historical site, Fruitlands Museum, founded in 1843 by A. Bronson Alcott and located in Harvard, MA, about an hour west of Boston.
